Parishes are the smallest areas of civil administration in England and provide the tier of local government closed to the people. Parish Councils are an essential part of the structure of local democracy and have a vital role in acting on behalf of the communities they represent.
Parish Councils have a wide range of powers and duties. They must appoint a Chairman and a Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer.
Duties of the Parish Council include giving views, on behalf of the community, on planning applications and other proposals that affect the parish, and alerting relevant authorities to problems that arise, or work that needs to be undertaken.
Wallington Demesne Parish Council comprises the settlements of Cambo, Middleton and Scots Gap.
The Council meet on the 4th Monday of January, March, May (the 3rd Monday should the 4th be a bank holiday), July, September and November commencing 730pm, alternating between Middleton and Cambo Village Halls.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend our meetings and have an opportunity to speak to councillors during Public Questions.
Questions asked by members of the public, and the responses from councillors will be recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
The Parish Council is funded by a precept which is collected from residents by Northumberland County Council as part of the Council.
